Psion

The Psion has 3 drives. The upper slot is the A:> drive and has a ROM card with our software. The Lower slot is the B:>
drive, and can be used for data storage with a RAM card. The M:> drive is INTERNAL memory. Programs run in the INTERNAL
memory. You can also share that area for data storage. It is volatile and dangerous to use it for data storage.

We suggest using the B: drive for data because it has its own battery inside. If the main and backup batteries in the
Psion go bad, the data is still safe. The Psion M:> drive is internal RAM. The B:> drive is a removable RAM card.

The PSION has two areas. One is called the COMMAND PROCESSOR, and the other the SYSTEM SCREEN. If you ESC out of C&G you
will either be at the main PSION screen, or in the SYSTEM SCREEN. If you are in the SYSTEM SCREEN (has icons), you can
press PSION-X to exit. You will then be at the Main PSION screen. If you press ENTER, you will be back in CG-Field. If
you press the MENU key you will have the choice of going to the COMMAND PROCESSOR or the SYSTEM SCREEN. The COMMAND
PROCESSOR is the DOS level that shows a M:>, A:> or B:> prompt. You can use DOS commands like DIR and COPY at this
level. To run CG-Field, simply type CG and press enter. PSION-X will exit the COMMAND PROCESSOR and return you to the
main PSION screen.

1) What do you do if the PSION is locked up. ESC does not seem to get them out of the function they are currently in.

	a) Try a PSION-ESC. This usually works.
	b) Try a WARM BOOT (PSION-CTRL-DEL). This will almost always work.

2) Communications seem to be a little flaky or do not work.

	a) First time user: Make sure the total station is set to the correct COM parameters (see manual).
	b) Do a warm boot and try again (PSION-CTRL-DEL). This will reset the COMM PORTS.
	c) Check the port to see if the Pins are recessed.
	d) Try swapping cables.

3) "Err: VARIBS.TMP" This error usually occurs when there is not enough memory for a process. Do a DIR on the M: drive.
If it has 127 (+/-) files or less than 400K free, you are out of memory. Remove any unnecessary files from the M:> drive
and re-run the software.

4) "Process Terminated Error 80". The SYS$8087.LDD file is missing or damaged. It should be in the A:\IMG\ directory on
the Psion. If it is there, try pulling the FLASH card out and re-seating it.

5) "No Memory For Process". Check the memory. Do a DIR on the M: drive. If it has 120+ files or less than 400K free, you
are out of memory. Remove any unnecessary files from the data drive and re-run the software. If it has plenty of memory,
it could be a problem loading the process (reading the FLASH card). Try pulling the FLASH card out and re-seating it.

6) "Media Corrupt" error: If it is on a RAM card Psion can get data off the card. If it is internal memory (M:> drive),
the data is lost. You must re-FORMAT the drive in question to use it again. From the big "PSION" screen, press the MENU
key and select "System Screen". When the Icon's show up, press the MENU key and use the "right arrow" to select the DISK
tab. Then use the "down arrow" to select "Format Disk". Use the "right arrow" to select the drive you want to format.
The "B:> drive" is the lower slot ram card. The "Internal drive" is the M:> drive or internal memory drive. After the
drive has been formatted, press the "PSION-X" keys (hold the Psion key down and press the X key). Answer "YES" to exit
System Screen.

7) "No such file or directory" error when you try to run C&G. This usually occurs when the program card is placed in the
lower slot instead of the upper slot.

8) The F1 through F8 keys do not work anymore - The Psion has two keyboard configurations. If the client accidentally
puts the Psion in "Special Keyboard", the keys no longer work properly. ESC out of C&G and go to the "Command
Processor". Hold the PSION key down and press the K key. You will see "Standard Keyboard" displayed on the bottom line.
Type CG to run CG-Field.

9)Alternate way to format a RAM card.

	1) Make sure the switch on the RAM card is set to WRITE.
	2) Put the RAM card in the Lower Slot.
	3) ESC out of our software until you see the big PSION screen.
	4) Press the MENU key and select SYSTEM SCREEN.
	5) When you see all the ICON's, press the MENU key.
	6) Select the DISK tab (use right arrow key) and select Format Disk (down arrow key).
	7) You will see a FORMAT DISK dialog box. Press the right arrow key until the DISK shows B: drive.
	8) Press ENTER to format the B: drive.
	9) After formatting press PSION-X and select YES to exit the SYSTEM SCREEN.
	10) At the big PSION screen, press ENTER to run CG-Field.
	11) Press the MENU key and select B:\ as the data path, press "S" to save the settings.

10) Switching to the "B:" drive
      a. After the card is formatted and in the lower slot, run CGField
      b. Press the MENU key to get to the option menus
      c. In the first screen (OPT1 menu) select 2 for Data Path
      d. Use the up/down arrows to change the drive letter
      e. Set the data path to B:\Data\ = CGField will create a Data directory on the B:> drive.
