Title: DOS-based Product Black Screen
Created: 2004-07-14Last modified: 2004-07-14
A user indicated that on a new computer with WinXP Pro, that a black screen came up when starting the dos-based products, such as Dozer2000. It would go no further. After several troubleshooting steps, it was determined that it was an issue with the video driver. The user ended up needing not only the current video driver, but a "Video Bios Update" as well. The computer was a Dell Inspirion 8300.

The screen would sometimes "pixelate" and come up with a grid of gray dots. The bat program got to the call for starting the program, but that is it.

Some of the steps that led to this was:

Was the shortcut pointing to the bat file or the exe? Bat file is correct.

What was inside the bat file that the user had?

Was the ini file deleted and program restarted after that? Did it create a new ini file?

More steps were performed, such as checking space allocated for dos command prompt window, etc. However, no more come to mind right now.
