Whether for Coffee or CAD – Choice is Good

Do you know your options when it comes to survey software? With Carlson Software, do just a little extra research to find the survey solution and CAD engine that best meets your needs.

OR..

Maybe I am just getting old but, remember when ordering a coffee was simple? I find approaching the barista (did I get that right?) to be an intimidating proposition. Even the sizes are confusing. But choice is good. I choose to make coffee at home. That way I can avoid the coffee shop prices and drink what I like.

One thing I love about working for Carlson Software is that we offer the market choices that make sense for different situations rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. But, it has become clear to me lately that many don’t understand the choices we offer or how they work.

A few weeks ago a gentleman called me ready to purchase one of our PC software products. What he didn’t know was that there were three options available to him.

He is a surveyor and was looking at one of our most popular solutions, which is Carlson Survey OEM. This is the Carlson Survey module bundled with the latest AutoCAD® OEM engine. It reads and writes DWG just like regular AutoCAD but has a bit of a simplified user interface as it relates to CAD. It is a good option for many.

What he didn’t know was that we also offer the Carlson Survey module running on AutoCAD for those who already have a copy. This solution runs on any flavor of AutoCAD from older versions to the latest Autodesk® Civil 3D®. Many choose this option when they already own one of these solutions since they know how to use it and can just drop the great Carlson Survey solutions right on top of it and go to work. But, he didn’t own a copy of AutoCAD.

In addition, he didn’t know that we have the same Carlson Survey module running on IntelliCAD® software. IntelliCAD is a CAD solution that has been around for several years and, for many, can be a viable alternative to AutoCAD. It reads and writes DWG as its native format. Its operation is very similar to AutoCAD. And Carlson Software includes IntelliCAD with Carlson Survey.

Take Your Choice…
After he understood the differences and options available, he decided to look at Carlson Survey with IntelliCAD. In a matter of a few days he was convinced that this would be a good solution for him. Plus, he chose to go with our software maintenance so that he would stay up-to-date on new releases of Carlson Survey moving forward.

Understanding the choices available to him allowed him to make the best choice for his business. In this case it just so happened that was also the least expensive option.

Most of Carlson’s desktop software solutions provide the choice between IntelliCAD or AutoCAD as the CAD platform and some also offer the OEM option. Knowing your choices is an important consideration as you manage your budget.

I haven’t even mentioned the myriad of choices available for the field. That is an even broader conversation that we don’t have space for here.

I should note that one area where no choice is necessary is technical support. We continue to offer free technical support because you shouldn’t have to pay to get the help you need.

We can help you select the best options for your organization.

Freedom of choice is good. Carlson Software is committed to offering a range of choices that help you leverage your technology in the field and office providing you a quick uptime and return on your investment with us.

Now back to my coffee.

*At the time of this writing, Carlson supports any “flavor” of AutoCAD from 2004 to 2014. Contact a Carlson rep to get the most up-to-date information on supported CAD versions.
