BT/WiFi Driver Patch Available

Carlson Software in conjunction with our manufacturing partner, Juniper Systems has released a patch that improves the performance of both Bluetooth and WiFi on all models of the Carlson Surveyor2 and Carlson Mini2 data collectors.

This patch improves Bluetooth range, increases the reliability and stability of the Bluetooth connection, and improves performance with mobile WiFi access points and cell phones functioning as personal WiFi hot-spots.

It is recommended that all current Surveyor2 and Mini2 users install this patch, especially if the Surveyor2 or Mini2 is being used to control a robotic total station via a long-range Bluetooth handle or if the Surveyor2/Mini2 is operating with a GNSS receiver in Data Collector Internet mode.

The patch only needs to be installed once.  It is permanently resident on the data collector unless the data collector is restored to factory default.

Installing the patch will not delete any job files or program files from the data collector.  However, it is a good practice to backup any important data before performing updates of any kind.


You can use the steps below on a Surveyor2 or Mini2 to install a Wifi / Bluetooth patch to improve communications:

1) Right-click the link below then left click "Save Target as" or "Save Link as" to download the file Surv2Mini2_BTWifi_Patch.CAB to your computer:

***PLEASE NOTE:  make sure not to “Unzip” or “Decompress” this file as its downloading or after it finishes downloading --- this file HAS to stay all one piece as a single filename for the next steps to function properly

2) Copy the file “Surv2Mini2_BTWifi_Patch.CAB” onto a USB Flash Memory device
 
3) Connect your USB memory stick to the Surveyor2 or Mini2 data collector

4) On the Data Collector - Tap File & Exit to exit out of SurvCE if its currently running
 
5) Tap File Explorer in the bottom right corner
 
6) Tap in the the Pulldown menu in the upper left just below "File Explorer" then tap on “Hard Disk”
 
7) Tap once on the “Surv2Mini2_BTWifi_Patch” file to launch bluetooth / wifi Patch install
               
8) Tap "Yes" when you are prompted with "This program installs the A2_BTWifi_coexist_patch. Do you wish to continue?"

9) Once its finished installing a Pop-up will display with the text below:
"A2_BTWifi_Coexistence_Patch applied. Device must be reset for settings to take effect"

10) Tap “OK” in the upper right to reboot the Surveyor2 or Mini2 and apply the changes
