If your Carlson Surveyor data collector will not power on please follow the steps below.
The batteries in the Carlson Surveyor are smart batteries, so when the battery reaches a very deep discharge state the firmware shuts down the battery and the data collector will not turn on.
Plug in the battery charger, then try to power on the data collector. It will usually power up using the 12 volts supplied by the battery charger, it will sense the charge level in the battery and start charging the battery. At this point, leaving the AC Wall Charger plugged in for 6 hours or so should fully charge the battery if its completely drained.
If you plug in the AC wall charger and the unit won't turn on, press and hold the power button down for 15 to 20 seconds at which time you should see the Blue Splash screen and you can release the power button.
If the unit still does not turn on after trying Step #2:
Remove the battery from the unit by opening the back hatch and lifting it out
With the battery STILL removed - plug in the AC Wall Charger to the top of the Surveyor
Turn on the Surveyor and let it stay powered on and plugged in for 4 or 5 minutes
With the data collector still Powered on and Plugged into the wall charger, the battery should then be installed and if the battery was completely drained you would need to leave it plugged in for 6 hours or so to fully recharge to 100%
If you still can't power on the unit after following Step 1 & Step 2 then you will need to send in this Battery Pack to Carlson Software so we can replace it with another battery. To do this you need to email us at: rma@carlsonsw.com
