Created: 2006-06-28Last modified: 2006-06-28
If your Data Collector has a USB connection we recommend using the USB cable to transfer data from the TDS Data Collector to Carlson desktop software by using Microsoft Activesync for Windows XP or "Windows Mobile Device Center" for Vista and Windows 7 through 10.

***PLEASE NOTE: if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 through 10. click the link below:

Windows VISTA software

For Windows XP users
-------------------------
If you have Windows XP and need to install ActiveSync click the link below. After it downloads click Run and then Follow the On-Screen prompts to install it:

Windows XP - ActiveSync 4.5

ActiveSync will prompt you to connect your Data Collect and it will search for it, follow the on-screen prompts to connect ActiveSync on your Computer to the Data Collector

COORDINATE DATA CONVERSION

Below is the Steps to follow for copying Coordinates from the TDS data collector to Carlson Software on a Desktop or Laptop computer:

1) Before Downloading coordinates from the Data Collector to Carlson:
Open up Survey PRO / tap File / tap Export / select CR5 and export out all points. You will next be prompted to save the file under a new name.

2) Make a CR5 file in the Survey Pro software in data collector

3) Open up Carlson Survey

4) Click file / Save As = Type in the name of your Project and click Save

5) Plug in the USB Cable to get Connected with ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center

6) Click Survey / Data Collectors / "Carlson SurvCE"
***If its your first time hooking up = click OK twice to the error messages
then click Options in the Bottom middle / click Com1 in the upper right
scroll up in the list and click "ActiveSync" / click OK to connect

7) Double-click on the "TDS Jobs" folder on the RIGHT SIDE then click once to highlight the CR5 file we created in Step #2 above

8) Click the Transfer button to copy this file to the Folder on your computer shown in the Upper Left corner as "Local Path:" then after its finished copying click Exit in the bottom right corner

9) Click the Points pulldown in your Carlson program / click "Convert Point Format" at the bottom of the list

10) click "Convert TDS CR5 to CRD"

11) You are now prompted to select your .CR5 for conversion. Use the Browse option to navigate your PC for the file which we extracted from your data collector. Click to highlight the CR5 file / click Open / click Open

12) Next you will be prompted to select a .crd to write. Creating a new .crd is the wisest choice, as choosing an existing .crd will overwrite previous data. If you are concerned with keeping all job coordinates in the same crd file, you can merge coordinate files later. It is safer to create a new file now.

13) Click Points / Set Coordinate file / Browse to the CRD file we created in step # 11 / click open

14) To plot the points on-screen = Click Points / click "Draw Locate Points" / click the "Draw all" button

15) To list out the coordinates = Click Points / click "List points" / click OK

Once a connection has been established, use the option to explorer your mobile device.
Double tap on My Computer, then TDS Jobs.

From this location you can select either .RAW or .CR5 files to be copied to a folder on your PC.

RAW DATA CONVERSION

Now, we will use the Carlson program to load these pieces of information.
First, go to Tools. Then Edit-Process Raw Data File.
You will be prompted to select either a New or Existing .rw5 to process. Since we are creating an .rw5 from our TDS .RAW file, we will need to choose New .rw5. The name that you choose for this file should be something related to the project that you are working on. It can even be the same as your TDS .RAW name.
Next, you will be prompted to select a New or Existing .crd (if you havent done so already, when you opened the program). Again, you will need to make it a recognizable file name.
Having followed these steps you will now be able to access the Raw Editor.
Here, you will select File. Then, Import. And finally, TDS. This is where the TDS .RAW file that we extracted from your Recon will come into play.
You are now being prompted to select your TDS .RAW file to process. Use the Browse option to navigate your PC for the file that you need. Once you have located it, select Open. You are now viewing your raw data file.
