This is in regards to using a Surveyor2 GEO CELL data collector as it relates to setting up the internal modem.

***To check if you have an internal cell modem you can exit out of SurvCE to the Windows Mobile home screen then tap the
"System Info" icon in the top right. Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap the "+" next to "Cell Modem". If it
shows "Not Installed" then you have a Surveyor2 standard model which does not have an internal 3G cell modem and the
steps below will not work.

The 3G modem is an option for the Surveyor 2 Geo model (It is not included in the Standard model). The
modem requires a 3G card, which is no longer offered by Verizon.

Step #1) Set up a Data Account with a Wireless Provider

Contact a wireless provider to set up data service for the cellular data modem and obtain an account and SIM card
(purchased separately). You need to provide the following information when setting up an account:

1. Billing Information and business ID such as your Federal Tax I.D. or VAT number.
2. The wireless services required. Specify that you need data service only. You do not need voice or messaging
services.
3. You may be asked for the modem's IMEI number, which can be found here: Start > Settings > System > System Information
> 3G Modem with the modem powered on.

Step #2) Install the SIM Card
To insert or remove a card follow these steps:
1. Exit SurvCE and hold the power button a few seconds and release it when you see the pop-up menu then tap POWER OFF
and tap OK to the warning message.

2. The SIM card slot is located in the battery compartment. Loosen the screws to the battery door and remove the battery
pack.

! CAUTION: The Surveyor 2 is not sealed against water and dust when the battery door is not installed.

3. Pull out the SIM card tray. Place the card onto the tray and push the tray in until it catches.

To remove the SIM card, pull the tray open and remove the card. Push the empty tray in until it catches.

4. Replace the battery pack and attach the battery door.

5. Power on the Surveyor2

Note: If the modem was on before shutting the Surveyor 2 down to insert the SIM card, you are
prompted to configure the data connection when you reboot.

Step #3) Set up the Cell Modem

1. If the cell modem icon is a Grey circle with just the text "3G Modem" beneath it = tap once on it to power it on

2. After about 30 seconds it turns green, indicating that the modem is available.

3. Once the modem is available, Tap and hold the modem symbol to open the Connections control panel.

4. In the "Tasks" entry tap "Manage Existing connections"

5. In "Modem" tap the "New" button in the bottom right

6. Type in the name of your cellphone provider such as "ATT" or "Tmobile" without quotes for the name of the connection

7. Set the "Select a modem:" to "Cellular Line (GPRS)" and tap "Next"

8. For AT&T type in "broadband" all lower case without quotes for the Access Point Name or if you are using a different
cellphone provider you will need to type in their unique APN server name then tap "Next"

9. If you are using AT&T you can leave the User Name, Password, Domain all blank and tap the "Finish" button or fill in
the information from your cellphone provider.

10. The MODEM icon should change to show "Connected AT&T" once its connected to the internet with the new settings.
