Detention Pond Design with Carlson Hydrology

This webinar is presented by Bruce Carlson, and was originally broadcast on March 25, 2010.
Bruce Carlson, president of Carlson Software, will lead attendees through “Before Construction” and “After Construction” runoff calculations by the SCS method using layer-based runoff coefficients, leading to Detention Pond sizing.

He’ll show how ponds would be designed using DTM features, with dynamic resizing and repositioning. Multiple outlet design would be demonstrated, leading to Resevoir Routing. Outputs would include Stage Storage Curves, Hydrograph reports and graphs. The use of layers for soil classifications will be shown as a way to maximize automation.

In addition, Carlson’s linkages to the popular program HydroCAD will be shown and how the programs can work for you for advanced pond outlet design.

Carlson 2010 Hydrology: From NRCS Soil Maps in ESRI to Channel and Pond Design in HydroCAD

This webinar is presented by Gary Rosen and Peter Smart, and was originally broadcast
on Oct 22, 2009.
This webinar will introduce the new linkages between Carlson Hydrology 2010 and HydroCAD 9.1. These new features are carefully designed to expedite the data extraction process from your CAD drawing, using the new HydroNET Explorer interface.

Carlson Software is excited to release the first Carlson Hydrology product that is tightly integrated with HydroCAD in its 2010 product line. This collaboration brings together the extraordinary ease of use that Carlson is known for, its 20+ years of experience mastering the civil/survey CAD environment, with the 20+ years of expertise of HydroCAD in the unique, rapidly changing and highly regulated stormwater modeling profession.

Put them together and you get a hydrology solution that is all of these things: comprehensive, versatile, powerful, easy to learn, easy to use, and reasonably priced.

Urban Hydrology: Sizing of Inlets, Grates and Storm Sewers

This webinar is presented by Bruce Carlson, and was originally broadcast
on August 20, 2009;
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain, when your sewer system has been built and pipes sized for any “what if” scenario.

This webinar, conducted by Bruce Carlson, founder and president of Carlson Software, will show how, utilizing Carlson Hydrology, distinct storm events are used for gutter spread analysis and for pipe sizing. Named storms of different types can be entered and recalled for this analysis.

Subjects covered will include: defining grate and curb inlets and adding them to existing libraries for re-use; calculating flows to inlets separately, but also how they are computed automatically from terrain models and layer-based land-use types.

Automated pipe sizing will be contrasted with “what if,” trial-and-error analysis. Complete small-scale storm design will be conducted on a small site, and inflow changes will be incorporated on a larger scale for illustration. Collision and pipe conflicts will also be examined. Bruce will also show how final designs can be displayed in 3D as well as in the form of classic plan and profile sheets.

ADVANCED Pond Design in Hydrology

This webinar is presented by Bruce Carlson, and was originally broadcast
on Aug 28, 2008.
This webinar, presented by Bruce Carlson, founder and president of Carlson Software, will review the calculation of storm flows for pond sizing and spillway design to control flows from different terrain and storm events. Automatic calculation of composite Curve Number (SCS) and C (Rational) factors will be presented, based on layering within the watershed boundary. Two methods of Detention Pond Sizing will be covered, one based on Peak Flow and another based on the Inflow Hydrograph (flow over time). Spillway design for base flow, small storm flow and for peak flow will be contrasted. A variety of spillways will be studied. Pond design in series will be examined, with pond sizing explored based on Rectangular Pond Design, Bench Pond Design and Valley Pond Design. Design of both “incised” ponds and ponds created by linear dams will be covered. Underground detention will also be explored using HydroCAD.

Working with Carlson Hydrology and HydroCAD Together

This webinar is presented by Gary Rosen and Peter Smart, and was originally broadcast
on Aug 14, 2008.
Carlson Hydrology and HydroCAD is a marriage (an alliance, really) made in heaven, announced this past April. This webinar, conducted by Gary Rosen, Carlson Northeastern Civil Sales Director, will cover the basic functionality of Carlson Hydrology and HydroCAD and how to use these two powerful solutions together to solve all of your hydrology design, analysis, and reporting requirements. Get in on the ground floor with this exciting new partnership and learn where the alliance is today and where it is headed. It’s an alliance designed to take advantage of the strengths of both companies. Introduced in 1986, HydroCAD is a Computer Aided Design tool used by Civil Engineers for modeling stormwater runoff. Carlson Hydrology, a part of the Carlson Civil Suite of solutions for civil engineers and designers, offers CAD-based runoff calculations and structure sizing from ponds to channels to pipes and includes full pipe network design and hydraulic flow analysis.

Commercial Site Terrain Models and Drainage Design

This webinar is presented by Bruce Carlson, and was originally broadcast
on July 24, 2008.
Review techniques of building site engineering, including parking lot design, building pad, access road, storm sewer and open channel and detention pond design in this comprehensive webinar led by Bruce Carlson, founder and president of Carlson Software.

Precise 3D terrain models will be created for stakeout and machine control. A combination of inlets with storm sewer pipes and open channel flow will be directed to a detention pond with spillway designs specifically for peak flow management.

Carlson Hydrology Webinar

This webinar is presented by Bruce Carlson, and was originally
broadcast on June 20, 2007.  In this webinar, Bruce provides an
in-depth exploration of the features of Carlson Hydrology, including
delineation of runoff coefficients by layers, delineation of
watersheds, and the creation of a HydroNet, which is a dynamic network
of structures and pipes.  This webinar is an excellent
introduction to the features and benefits of Carlson Hydrology, and a
great way to start using the program.
