Results of the 14th Annual Carlson Software
National Senior Design Competition Are In

Virginia Tech Students Take First Place

MAYSVILLE, Ky., U.S.A. — Congratulations to all of the schools that participated in the 2011 Carlson Software National Senior Mine Design Competition.  

Eric Dohm, Wilson Lin, and Jason Yeager at Virginia Tech took 1st Place.  Alex Hatt and Mike McClintock at the University of Nevada at Reno took 2nd Place. John Dailey, Justin White, and Jarrod Willis at the University of Kentucky took 3rd Place. 

Carlson Software will present the awards at the Joint Fall Meeting of the Kentucky Coal Association (KCA) and the Central Appalachian Section of SME (CAS) that will be held October 20-22, 2011, at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington, Kentucky.

The winning project receives $2,000, 2nd Place project receives $1,000 and the 3rd Place project receives $500. Each student receives a certificate documenting the achievement. Each school has a running plaque that is updated by Carlson Software. 

Carlson Software sponsors the annual competition open to the ABET accredited mining engineering schools. Each school is invited to participate regardless of Carlson Software use. Carlson Software supports the mining engineering academic community by sponsoring the senior design competition and providing its software free to qualifying institutions.
