Winners of the 2008 Carlson Software National Senior Mine Design Competition Announced
MAYSVILLE, Ky. – Students from Virginia Tech, the University of Nevada-Reno, and the University of Kentucky took the top three places in the annual Carlson Software National Senior Mine Design Competition.
Carlson Software sponsors the competition, which is open to the ABET accredited mining engineering schools. Schools are invited to participate regardless of Carlson Software use.
Virginia Tech seniors Steve Keim, Travis Tyndall, and Andrew Wren took the top prize and will receive $2000 for the project in addition to having their names engraved on a plaque, updated and maintained by Carlson Software, at their school.
Second place and $1000 were won by Reed Tolotti and Jay Gillion, seniors at the University of Nevada-Reno. Adam Ramsey, Keith Harris, and Chad Damron submitted the third place project for which the University of Kentucky seniors were awarded $500.
The official presentation of the awards will be at the 2008 Annual Joint Central Appalachian Section, SME, West Virginia Coal Institute Meeting to be held Oct. 16-18 at The Greenbrier at White Sulfur Springs, W.V.
