| Product History:
Evolution to Carlson Civil |
|
|
|
| |
|
Carlson Civil 2010 is the
newest product offering from Carlson Software addressing the site,
subdivision and road design needs of the civil engineer. Carlson Civil
2010 is the natural outgrowth of a well-established product line dating
back to 1983. It is the third “makeover” of core products from Carlson.
The first product that established the company was Surveyor 1, a
DOS-based survey solution that included plotting and digitizing, as
well as a full set of COGO functions. With the advent of AutoCAD 10 in
the early 1990s, Carlson Software ported all of its features to work in
Windows inside AutoCAD, and supplemented the survey routines with
contouring, volumes, subdivision design, sections, profiles and a
complete set of roading features. This second incarnation was known as
SurvCADD. SurvCADD became a favorite solution for surveying companies,
was utilized by many civil departments, and, with the addition of
mining features, came to dominate many sectors of the mine design and
planning industry (view timeline of
development highlights for Carlson Civil 2010).
With the continued
addition of civil engineering and construction-oriented features,
SurvCADD began to outlive both its name and its survey-based
structure. Since 2000, Carlson Software has emphasized development of a
new set of advanced civil engineering features for 3D road network
design, DTM-based sewer network design and site development. This
culminated in the May 26, 2006, release of Carlson Civil 2007, which is
now further enhanced with the October 2010 release of Carlson Civil 2010.
Carlson Civil 2010 is
designed to provide the Carlson traditional ease-of-use combined with
unsurpassed functionality, all based on 25+ years of experience in the
software industry serving this market. Listening to and incorporating
customer input into our software design over these years has made
Carlson Civil 2010 the most user-friendly and solution-oriented civil
engineering software in the marketplace today. We attribute this to our
comprehensive experience in the overlapping markets of survey,
construction and mining, and the Carlson dedication to providing
technologically superior software products. |
