Concept-to-Completion Track

Time, Class Titles, Descriptions, and Instructors (subject to change)

Monday, April 6

8-9:45AM/SurvCE-Field Track I/SurvCE: Field-to-Finish in the Field/John Gerber/CEU Credit -- This session will focus on collecting Topography Data using Total Stations, Robots and GPS Equipment. We will spend some time explaining how to use Feature Code lists for creating linework Live in the Data Collector. We will also cover using Robots and GPS to collect Points using our Auto by Interval routine.

10:15AM-Noon/Field-to-Finish Mapping/Dave Carlson/CEU Credit -- Learn how to set up our Field-to-Finish programs code table (code definition) to plot field surveyed points with descriptions as symbols and linework in pre-defined layers, using your offices or customers drawing CAD standards.

1-2:45PM/Civil Track I/Commercial Site Design/Harry Ward/CEU Credit -- In this seminar, you will learn how to lay out a commercial site, learn methods of handling rainfall events and designing retention facilities. Some of the design features discussed will comprise a lesson in parcel layout for the site, basic grading, computing earthworks takeoffs and design and layout storm utilities.

3:15-5PM/Civil Track II/RoadNET/Scott Griffin/CEU Credit -- This session focuses on the capabilities of RoadNET, the pinnacle of road design functionality found in Carlson Civil. Starting from scratch with AutoCAD polylines, we will cover the entire process of turning these into a network of roads, in 2D and 3D, including the creation of Profiles, Cross Sections, Templates, Finished Contours, Volume Calcs, and 3D Visualization. The Road Network, will inclue 3-way and 4-way intersections, cul-de-sacs, roundabouts, and transitions for bus turnouts or lane widenings. You will leave ready to design any network of roads you encounter.

Tuesday, April 7

8-9:45AM/Civil Track II/Watersheds-Routing/Bruce Carlson/CEU Credit -- This session covers watershed analysis and hydrograph routing. Starting with a 3D terrain model, we will use watershed analysis to delineate the watershed boundaries, find the ponding areas and draw runoff polylines. Next, we will work through the process of calculating time of concentration and peak flow for different methods includeing TR-55 and SCS. Finally, we will cover creating and routing hydrographs through reservoirs and channels using the TR-20 and Carlson methods.

10:15AM-Noon/Takeoff Advanced Earthworks/Harry Ward/CEU Credit -- In this seminar, you will learn how to use routines to compute topsoil stripping/replacement and elevating site data from 2D data to 3D. You will also learn how to perform earthworks computations, costing out and preparing pay quantities for the construction.

1-2:45PM/SurvCE-Field Track II/SurvCE: Stakeout/Tom Peak/CEU Credit -- This session will cover stakeout procedures from single Points to complex Surface models, Centerlines and X-sections. We will go through the software workflow for stakeout tasks such as Design Structures by using both GPS receiver and Total Station. We will also see the different types and sources of data that can be used under the stakeout functions.

3:15-5PM/Carlson Machine Control/Randy Noland/CEU Credit -- Carlson Grade v3.2 is a scalable 2D/3D Machine Control & Guidance software package that addresses many construction-grading tasks such as real time cut/fill, stakeout/collect points, field design of pads/slopes and more.  This class will tour Grade’s many features by running the software with a GPS simulator.  Also presented are Case Studies of how Grade is being used globally and in what machine types and applications. We will also discuss Grade Supervisor as a site management system for truck/pole/ATV monitor of grade and volumetric calculation.  Heartbeat connectivity will also be discussed.

A grid with the complete class schedule is now available. NOTE: Classes offering IACET-sanctioned CEUs are listed. It is recommended that, due to differing state requirements, each attendant check with his or her state organization to determine its CEU acceptance/regulations. If you have a specific request for a class subject, please email conference@carlsonsw.com and your request will be considered.
